General description:

Getting to know and trying out a broad spectrum of contemporary vocal music
The course aims to prepare students for encounters with contemporary music in the singing profession. Works with different aesthetics of contemporary music and their most important predecessors will be considered and tried out together, advanced vocal techniques and the healthy handling of them will be practiced:
- Approach to complex scores (new nota?on signs, graphic aspects in scores, microintervals, complex rhythms).
- Basic vocal techniques of new music: Sprechgesang, non-vibrato, breath and vocal timbres, as well as extended vocal techniques: experimental and overlapping (= borrowed from other music cultures, folkloristic, classical or popular) techniques such as overtone singing or beatboxing.
How do I experiment with my voice in a healthy way?
- How do I find the right piece for my own voice? Students are welcome to suggest pieces they have brought with them.
- New music and new media (working with playback, microphones and microphone technology, effects devices (e.g. vocoder), live electronics, motion sensors, click track, video score, audio score)
- Communication via (one's own) voice / working with composers
