The newly approved ARTILACS (Artistic Intelligence in Latent Creative Spaces) research training group focuses on the concept of "Artistic Intelligence". This addresses a critical-affirmative examination of developments in artificial intelligence in the context of artistic practice. ARTILACS aims to investigate the extent to which a hybrid combination of AI-supported, latent spaces and traditional knowledge spaces opens up opportunities for new forms of creativity and knowledge in artistic practice. Four Hamburg universities are cooperating to examine the topic in the context of different artistic practices.
In the seminar, we will attempt to outline the epistemological question underlying the work of the research group in more detail, based on the latest research literature on the topic of artificial intelligence and its role in the arts. We will approach our topic from various disciplinary perspectives and will also attempt to delve into concrete artistic examples. Central to this is the group's intention to take a "critical-affirmative" approach to the relationship between "art" and "AI", i.e. to escape a "cultural-critical" or - worse still - culturally pessimistic blockade without being trapped in a blind adoration of progress.

In order to obtain credit points, a willingness to read (including longer texts!), a text presentation and a written assignment or reflection on your own artistic work are obligatory. Sporadic participation without credit points or as a guest student is also possible and takes place after consultation with the lecturers.
