Description

Over the last two decades, numerous research perspectives have been developed that have the question of future ethics inherent in them: from gender and postcolonial studies, diversity and inclusion to ecological and economic considerations. But what does all this mean for the entire field of music and musicology, especially if we focus not only on the work of art and its interpretation, but also understand music as a comprehensive process that is significantly linked to individual and social concerns? How can the meaningfulness of music today be outlined, what aesthetic principles guide it and what can its social significance be?
The term "future ethics" goes back to the philosopher Hans Jonas, who coined it in 1979 in his book "The Principle of Responsibility"; since then it has been taken up several times in practical philosophy. The seminar serves to discuss the related questions in concrete terms, e.g. with regard to the significance of music for power relations and music economies, for gender relations, diversity and inclusion, but also with regard to the significance of music as an autonomous art form.

Literature

Suitable literature will be announced in the seminar.
