Description

The seminar will cover the period from the late 19th to the early 20th century. On the one hand, we will focus on works that are still in an extended form of the major-minor tonal system, and on the other hand on works that transcend its boundaries. An important focus of the seminar will be the investigation of the extent to which major-minor tonal works contain elements that indicate the dissolution of major-minor tonality and the extent to which non-tonal works in turn look back on principles of the major-minor tonal system. The selected works will be analyzed with the aim of deciphering the compositional logic inherent in them in terms of micro- and macrostructure.
