Entrance examination for teaching theater

The application period for the winter semester 2025/26 for the teaching degree program in Theater begins on 15.02.25 and ends on 01.04.25.

The following steps are required for a successful application for the teaching subject Theater as part of the teaching degree program within the application deadline:

• Receipt of online application incl. upload of supporting documents
• Receipt of application fee (payment information at the end of the completed online application)

Your application will only be considered if all the steps described have been completed in full within the application deadline and the online application and application fee have been received.

The entrance examination consists of a two-stage process.
A selection is made from the applications received and these are invited to the second stage in presence.

Below you will find further information on the requirements for the entrance examination.

For the first stage of the entrance examination, please submit the following documents as an upload as part of the online application:

• Letter of motivation
• Written analysis of the production provided (max. 5,400 characters, incl. spaces, 1.5 lines)

You will find the link to the production at the beginning of the online application after you have selected the desired degree program.
The production should be analyzed according to the following criteria:

• What means does the production use and how does it deal with them?
  (stage, costume, lighting, sound etc.)
• How do the players relate to these means?
• What attitude does the production itself adopt?
  (What is its focus, from which perspective is it told?)

The second stage of the entrance exam will take place on May 29 and 30, 2024 in Hamburg. 

The second stage of the entrance examination in presence consists of the following parts:

• freely chosen solo performance (e.g. dance, improvisation, monologue etc.)
• Scenic group management
  You will be given a topic for this on the day of the exam, from which you will develop a scene as a group
• Interview with the entrance examination committee

Special feature for teaching degree for secondary level I and II (LA-Sek):

• Prima-Vista task
  You will receive a text for this on the day of the exam, which you must analyze

The evaluation of the Prima Vista task takes place during the interview with the entrance examination board.
