Core area

The course essentially consists of two main areas: the core area and the qualification area.

The core area consists primarily of extensive individual main subject teaching (1.5 hours per week over the entire course of study). In consultation with their mentor, students choose their individual lecturers from a large pool of different artists within the framework of semester-based learning agreements.

Lessons can also be divided among several lecturers.

The aim of the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster program is to develop an individual musical signature. This presupposes that each student composes their own music and wants to realize this music. As part of the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster program, this happens with their own band project, which is integrated into the study context.

There is only one mandatory ensemble in the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster: the student's own Jazzmaster Ensemble.

The Jazzmaster Ensemble is the "working band" with which regular work takes place during the course. This band can be used for examinations, the artist-in-residence project and the final concert. Ideally, this band project can continue for many years after graduation and be an important building block in the artistic life of the graduate.

The work in the Jazzmaster Ensemble is supported by a freely chosen lecturer from the 2nd-4th semester.
