Focus areas in the qualification sector

In the additional focus on composition, students work with a composition lecturer on a project that is to be put into practice after the third semester. This project can be a composed program for a small ensemble or a compositional project for big band or a small orchestra. The practical implementation of the compositions for presentation on stage is part of this module.

In the production specialization, students focus on the topic of music production under the guidance of an experienced lecturer. The nuances and focal points in this broad field are set by the student together with their lecturer. The aim of the three semesters is the realization of a project of the student's choice.

In cooperation with the Institute for Cultural and Media Management, a portfolio of seminars from the KMM attendance course can be taken in this additional specialization. In addition, students work on individual selected projects of the respective KMM year.

Classical Western European music culture can also be of great value to a jazz instrumentalist and broaden the musical spectrum enormously. As part of the Dr. Langner Jazzmaster, this can be chosen as a focus, which ends with a self-designed classical final concert.

In cooperation with the Eventim pop course, the pop course is attended in the 1st and 2nd semesters in this additional focus and in the 3rd semester the experience and contacts gained there are implemented in a band project on stage under the guidance of a selected lecturer.

In cooperation with the HfMT's Theater Academy, stage music is developed and implemented here for the study projects of the respective year groups. The practical work is accompanied by seminars that introduce students to the world of theater.

Even if jazz and improvisation seem to be synonymous, the world of freely improvised music can be a field of musical experimentation beyond the jazz idiom. In this additional focus, students dedicate themselves to improvised music beyond jazz and, after three semesters, present a concert project with the results of these musical experiments on stage.
