SEPTEMBER AT THE HFMT
Dear friends of the HfMT,
We're coming back from our summer break and are immediately surprised at how event-intensive our September is. After all, we are still in the middle of the semester break and most of us have flown out to pursue other activities.
We are therefore all the more pleased to be able to share our activities with you.
Over the next few weeks, you will not only have the opportunity to attend our performances or - as every year - listen to the masterclasses at the International Mendelssohn Summer School. There are even opportunities to participate.
If, for example, you have a private passion for playing the piano, you can gain inspiration at the Piano Days for amateur pianists and refine your technique and expression in individual lessons with our professors.
Things are less conventional at the ligeti zentrum, where you are invited to use special hydrophone recording techniques to incorporate your own bowel sounds into a shared artistic and exploratory soundscape and talk about what you have experienced. Brave ones ahead :-)
The program also includes a large music therapy congress with a program section for the interested public, Arthur Honegger's Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher as the final production in the musical theater directing course, the opening concert of the wonderful PHŒNiX festival in the JazzHall and one or two other gems.
A word about timing: due to technical problems, this newsletter was published later than planned and so the first recommendations are already waiting in the wings to become super last-minute tips...
Have fun!
Your HfMT
HEALING SOUNDSCAPES - OPEN LECTURE
Knowledge transfer at the ligeti center: with the new series of Open Lectures, the ligeti center invites international experts to shed light on laboratory topics from different perspectives. The lectures are not only intended to promote the exchange of knowledge at a professional level, but also to share exciting findings with the world. All interested people are invited!
The Healing Soundscapes project in cooperation with the UKE will kick off with a series of 6 lectures in the coming months. The topic on September 4 is Environmental Music Therapy with the expert Andrew Rosetti.
MUSIC & POETRY
Where plants find shelter from the frost in winter, young artists from the HfMT show their skills on summer concert evenings in the very special atmosphere of the venue, the greenhouse in the Botanical Garden in Klein Flottbek.
The Nilius Pfunda Quartet will perform their program Songs & Cities in the last arrangement of the Musik & Lyrik series for this year, inviting you to pay homage to the everyday life of travelling minstrels, travelling musicians and touring ensembles and presenting a wide variety of songs from countries they have visited as well as new works that were created in foreign cities.
SCIENCE & SOUNDS - WHERE MUSIC MEETS MEDICINE
The second festival congress Science & Sounds - where Music meets Medicine, which this time is dedicated to the topic of "pain", will take an in-depth look at music therapy. While the first day is dedicated to professional exchange, the second day is also aimed at the interested public as an open forum and has some exciting program items and a concert evening in store for you. Registration is still possible.
Symposium on September 6 at the UKE
Open forum on September 7 at the HfMT
JEANNE D'ARC AU BûCHER - JOAN OF ARC AT THE STAKE
On September 7 and 8, directing graduate Lennart Nielsen will bring Arthur Honegger's dramatic oratorio Jeanne d'Arc au bûcher to the Forum stage, combining a historical and contemporary perspective on France's national heroine.
He is interested in the attributions Joan of Arc breaks with and the boundaries she provokes. "From farmer's daughter to war leader and saint, she undergoes a social transgression that cannot be conceived without questions of gender and sexuality. Ultimately, it is also the embodiment of this transgression - namely the wearing of 'men's clothing' - that becomes part of her condemnation as a witch. The character, who historically plays a kind of trouser role herself, thus exhibits that gender is staged - at the same time she shows that playing with this staging can be life-threatening."
The artistic team includes students from the universities HfMT, HfbK and HAW as well as the Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Choir under the direction of Hansjörg Albrecht.
Performances are on September 7 at 7.30 pm and on September 8 at 4.30 pm.
INTERNATIONAL MENDELSSOHN SUMMER SCHOOL
As always in September, the Mendelssohn Summer School breathes a very special life into the HfMT for two weeks. Students from all over the world populate the rehearsal and teaching rooms and dedicate themselves intensively to the further development of their instrumental playing. Renowned artists and professors support them and share their passion and expertise in over 30 masterclasses.
The HÖR(S)PASS gives interested parties and music enthusiasts the opportunity to attend the lessons and numerous concerts. Day tickets are also available.
18th International Mendelssohn Summer School from September 9 to 22
PIANO DAYS FOR AMATEUR PIANISTS
And that's really something: amateur pianists, get your socks on!
Here you can immerse yourself in the art of piano playing for 7 days - at the highest artistic level. Our piano professors have put together a varied program that includes individual lessons, workshops and master classes as well as theoretical input and interesting background knowledge. The Piano Days are organized in cooperation with the Leipzig piano manufacturer Blüther.
Active and passive participation is possible for a small fee. Registration is open until September 15, but the number of participants is limited.
PHŒNIX FESTIVAL - OPENING CONCERT
We are very happy to be hosting the opening concert of the PHŒNiX festival.
The festival celebrates cultural expressions that were threatened and persecuted by the Nazi regime at various locations in the city. From Jewish to queer, from jazz to classical music, from Sinti&Roma to drag queens.
At the opening concert in the JazzHall, students, alumni and guests perform classical music by ostracized female composers, chansons by Friedrich Hollaender and songs and jazz standards by Kurt Weill.
At the end of the evening, we invite you to dance to Lindy Hop, Blues and Balboa.
ARTISTIC GUT RESEARCH AT THE LIGETI CENTER
We focus entirely on our internal organs and specifically on the tones and sounds produced by our intestines and gain insights into the interweaving of sounds with media art, sensor technologies and medicine.
At the end of their residency at ligeti zentrum, Denisa Pubalova & Dr. Lea Luka Sikau will explain the aspects of their current research project and allow us to become an active part of the investigation and a sound installation created on site as part of a workshop and a vernissage.
What does your gut rehearse to tell you? on September 25 at ligeti zentrum
stuff change on September 27 at the ligeti center
