OCTOBER WITH LOTS OF NEWS

Dear friends of the HfMT,

Tadaa - we're back after a long break and have all kinds of news that we'd like to share with you. Our anticipation is huge and colorful. Come and join us!

NEW WEBSITE

Just in time for the start of the semester, we have launched our new website. It uses our tried-and-tested design, but is clearer and more intuitive and offers us more options for presenting the diverse content in an appealing way thanks to new design elements.

At the moment, the joy of the switch is still clouded by a few teething troubles: in particular, the in-page navigation on tablets and iPhones is not working smoothly at the moment. In addition, the events cannot yet be filtered as desired and are sometimes not displayed in full. We are trying to fix these and other bugs as soon as possible. Please be patient in this regard.

Otherwise, please feel free to browse the new pages. We look forward to your feedback and suggestions.
The best way to do this is to use the e-mail address kommunikation@hfmt-hamburg.de

NEW SEASON

The semester opens on October 4. After welcoming the "first-timers" in the morning and introducing them to the various departments as well as arranging rehearsals and discussing the timetable later in the day, we open the Forum doors in the evening for the first concert of the new season:

on this occasion, the symphony orchestra will play the 4th and 5th symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven. Prof. Ulrich Windfuhr will be conducting. At the beginning of the event, University President Prof. Dr. Jan Philipp Sprick will give an overview of the university's current activities and challenges in a welcoming address. And with that, we are "on air" again.

NEW TOPICS

"Diversity can inspire!"
Together, we celebrate diversity, because it is not just a buzzword, but the heart of our interaction and creative development at an artistic and academic university.

That is why we are organizing 6 Study Weeks in the coming winter semester on the topics of inclusion, classism, proximity & distance, anti-discrimination and educational participation, coloniality and equality for women, inter-, trans- and non-binary people. The program includes panels, lecture series and artistic events, some of which are also open to external visitors.
In a kick-off event, we introduce the "Why?" and "What?":

"Why do we deal with diversity issues?" and
"What do we need to do to become more open, diverse and accessible?"

Diversity Study Weeks from 17.10.

NEW PERSPECTIVE

Now let's let the "kings of the theater", the actors, have their say...

October is DRAMA! time for us. Created as a "space for reflection for young theater makers", the festival has developed into a highly successful talent platform through continuous profiling. The Hamburg Poetry Lecture is embedded in the presentation of the work results.

For seven years, we have listened to the most important voices in contemporary drama at this venue. Now it's time for a change and we are following the perspective of remarkable actors. Julia Riedler will kick off this reorientation under the title "Poetics of Play".

NEW NEWSPAPER

The new issue of the university newspaper zwoelf is currently going through the printing presses and will arrive shortly after the start of the semester. The main topic this time is diversity. Various experts will each contribute a detailed article on the topics of the Diversity Study Weeks.

As usual, you will also find news, developments and reflections from the individual disciplines and deans of studies.

If you would like to receive the zwoelf free of charge by post, please send us an e-mail with your address to redaktion.zwoelf@hfmt-hamburg.de

FURTHER RECOMMENDATIONS

In the Early Music Studio series, lecturers present the "Essercizii Musici" by the Hamburg grand master Georg Philipp Telemann in the Mendelssohn Hall.
Early Music Studio on 10.10.

The artistic final projects of our doctoral students are becoming increasingly important. There are two presentations in this category in October:
Music theater "Frau Kempelens Sprechmaschinen" on 14 and 15 October by Giordano Bruno do Nascimento
Solo evening by Clara Haberkamp on 29 October in the JazzHall with her research results on "Extended methods for song accompaniment"

And once again we have the chance to listen to Korean sounds when the ensemble "Nabiya" (meaning "butterflies") perform traditional instruments and old and new compositions at the Forum.
Korea Creative Concert on 14.10.

The Lucia Thörl Masterclass gives students on the Master's Opera course the opportunity to work on their vocal and performance skills with an internationally renowned singer. This year we will be honored by Prof. Anne Schwanewilms.
Final concert of the Lucia Thörl Masterclass on 20.10.

At the end of the month, we recommend a trip to the Barlach House in Jenischpark for the Klang & Form concert series, which in this edition is dedicated to the horn, described by Robert Schumann as the "soul of the orchestra". Under the direction of Prof. Szabolcs Zempléni, works by Gustav Mahler, Leonard Bernstein and Reinhold Glière will be performed.
Klang & Form on 29.10.

A good start to the new season and here's to many inspiring encounters!
