After Jugend Musiziert, the Flute Days and the Organ City Hamburg were among our guests in March, the HfMT will be populated by a whole host of highly talented and motivated young pianists from March 21 to 30. The international piano competition clavicologne will be held in Hamburg under the artistic direction of Prof. Stepan Simonian. In addition to the competition days, master classes and concerts will take place. The absolute and final highlight of the week is a workshop and a lecture by old master Alfred Brendel, who - at the age of 88 - no longer plays himself, but is happy to share his knowledge. He is now popular and much in demand for his humorous and lively lectures. He himself was particularly tempted by the prospect of a version of two piano concertos by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart that he was not familiar with: the orchestral part was set for string quintet by Ignaz Lachner. This version will be tested in a workshop on March 30 with two competition participants and the award-winning Baumquartett.
The public is welcome at all events; tickets for the two events with Alfred Brendel in the Forum will be issued on admission. Early arrival is recommended.
BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK...
Topic 'black' of the university newspaper zwoelf

It's that time again: the new issue of our university newspaper zwoelf is out! The final spurt of production has begun and the editorial team is working flat out on proofreading, editing, writing and poetry. Everything is being done so that zwoelf can open the semester, traditionally hot off the press, at the beginning of April.
But here's a taste of what the new zwoelf has in store for you. After BLUE, another color will be the theme, but an "achromatic" one: BLACK. Like the eye of the koi carp in Yang, we are surrounded by light and look into the dark. So, as an antipode to the blossoming spring and impending summer, but above all to the omnipresence of light, noise and activity, we set out in search of the lost darkness. And we found it everywhere!
Slip into your little black dress or turtleneck sweater with us and plunge into the theatrical black box and look around the empty space. Musically, we hop from the blues of the last edition to soul and jazz and discover that black metal is not just black and loud. We learn about the "victory over the sun" and the birth of the black square. We allow ourselves to see black sometimes and then "put a tea light in the dark kitchen". Because a light needs darkness in order to recognize itself.
SOUNDFORM - CLEAR THE WAY FOR LOW-BARRIER INSTRUMENTS
Wahibie/Guntelmann with TonArt Hamburg
What happens to someone who wants to learn to play an instrument but does not have the physical ability to do so? The HfMT is addressing this question with a whole series of events in collaboration with other institutions and showing ways to make instruments accessible to everyone.
Music accompanies us in everyday life, awakens emotions, creates memories, supports relaxation and is a means of expression and communication. Listening to and producing music should be accessible to everyone - regardless of age or ability. If a person with limited hand movement wants to learn to play the violin, they are usually advised to choose a different instrument. What is little known is that there are now many good examples of classical instruments that can be operated with one hand or other parts of the body, for example. Or digital enhancements that enable completely new ways of playing - and therefore also ways of expression. And this is where diversity becomes a source of inspiration and creativity: a small circle of musical instrument developers from all over the world is currently working on completely new ways of producing music and sound: Be it through the movement of the eyes, movement and dance on stage or painting. What is being created here not only opens up new worlds of artistic inclusion, but also opens up completely new scope for art.
"SOUNDFORM - Instruments for All" is a project by EUCREA e.V. in cooperation with barner 16 (alsterarbeit gGmbH) DRAKE MUSIC London/ Hamburger Konservatorium/ Hochschule für bildende Künste (HfbK)/ Hochschule für Music and Drama Hamburg (HfMT)/ funded by Aktion Mensch
From March 20 to 22 there will be an opportunity to delve into this exciting topic, talk to experts, try out accessible instruments and listen to concerts.
