ENCORE UNE FOIS
Dear friends of the HfMT,
Two very successful performances of Bach's Mass in B minor in the HfMT Forum are now behind us: the sonorous choir and wonderful vocal soloists from the Lübeck University of Music were accompanied confidently and sensitively by our university orchestra with buttery-soft string sounds, outstanding wind passages and brilliant trumpets. Under the artistic direction of Maestro Windfuhr, it turned out to be a feast for the ears in a class of its own, with which we are now once again drawn to the church.
Mass in B minor at St. Johannis Church on March 3
After this worthy end to the semester, our performance schedule will become more manageable, which is why we have put together some interesting news from the backstage area:
RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE
With breathtaking technology, the webcast team lets us experience theater up close and from multiple perspectives. In times of various lockdowns and in view of numerous streaming offerings, the film version of the play "Out there" opens up a colossal new world that allows the audience to get intimately close to the protagonists and feel a special connection with the action on stage.
Eight small, individually controllable and sophisticated cameras were positioned directly on the stage and between the actors. This allows us to follow them from different angles, look over their shoulders or directly into their faces and see nuances that cannot be captured during a visit to the theater or with frontal cameras. Not a substitute for real theater visits, but definitely a new and rewarding genre.
"Out There" by Stanislava Jević based on an idea by Dominique Enz was created at the Junges Schauspielhaus Hamburg as a postgraduate project in cooperation with the Theaterakademie der HfMT. The stream can be seen on nachtkritik.plus for 2 days from March 2, after which we will show it on our HfMT channels.
Take a look and feel free to give us feedback. We are curious to see how you like it!
A LOT GOING ON IN MUSICOLOGY
Our academic undertakings are less visible to outsiders, but no less interesting and very enriching for us as an artistic university. There is a noticeable breath of fresh air in musicology with new ideas and projects.
We will be hosting a new research project from March 2023. Dr. Sophie Fetthauer has received funding from the German Research Foundation (DFG) for the project "Paula, Josef und Frieda Fruchter: Briefe aus dem Shanghaier Exil 1941-1949". This is linked to a one-year position at the HfMT. A warm welcome!
The research project is concerned with analyzing and editing the above-mentioned letters. Sophie Fetthauer herself is particularly interested in the exile-specific modes of communication: "The Fruchters lived in Shanghai under extremely difficult conditions, yet in their letters they were constantly considerate of the addressee of the letters in Vienna, Paula Fruchter's mother, so as not to frighten her. That is quite paradoxical."

CULTURAL MESSENGERS WANTED
"Music makes you human again"...
Enabling participation for a particularly vulnerable group in society. Creating access to cultural experiences. Our Career Center is committed to this vision and has developed an app that is specifically geared towards the needs of senior citizens.
MusikTIPP is a constantly growing digital concert library. The app is easy to use and versatile. It contains concert recordings by our students and also offers background stories about the music and the lives of the artists.
Join us and support our project as a Kulturbot:in!
We will provide scientific support for the project for a period of 2 months. We are looking for music enthusiasts who will put MusikTiPP in the hands of people in retirement homes. The period begins in April, with an introduction taking place in March. Curious? You can get more information directly from MusikTIPP
+ + +
Despite the semester break, we are not closing up store: the Jazzhall is continuing its concert schedule unperturbed, and the Theaterakademie is presenting three more final productions in the drama directing department. As always in March, we will also be hosting the state competition "Jugend musiziert", which will set our rooms vibrating from March 24 to 26. The winners' concert of this year's 60th edition has the motto "Depicting and motivating diversity".
Your HfMT wishes you a wonderful start to spring!
