SPRING IN BLOOM

Dear friends of the HfMT,

We have almost made it through January - which is proving to be particularly long and challenging in its final days. February ahead of us - for some a thankfully short bridge to the first month of spring - may be short from an HfMT perspective, but it is rich and therefore blooming like spring in the mind.

As things stand today, we have 72 events, i.e. two to three per day. And we would like to recommend them ALL to you. Due to the coronavirus, every production is hanging by a thread. Each one deserves to be presented. Every one that can take place, no matter how wild the conditions, will be celebrated.

And so this time we're not picking out any highlights for you, but rather hopping through our vegetable garden with you to give you an overview.

One after the other:

MUSIC - LOTS OF ORCHESTRA

Almost all of our orchestras are taking to the stage this month: the small ensemble Ensemble 13/14 will perform an arrangement of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 7 at the Akademie der Künste, the school music orchestra presents itself with predominantly romantic sounds, two outstanding soloists perform their concert exams with our cooperation orchestra - the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra - in the series Windfuhr's Workshop Concertsthe baroque orchestra focuses on English music under the new direction of Prof. Domen Marincic and the Symphony Orchestra of the HfMT will dedicate an entire evening to the symphonic Brahms with his 3rd and 4th symphonies.

It gets experimental and multimedia with Liminal Spaceswhich is actually spread over several rooms. At the end of the month, we are looking forward to celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Hamburg Guitar Forum, with which we are linked by numerous joint projects - and of course there will also be many, many, many studio and final concerts :-)

JAZZHALL - LOTS OF GUESTS

Ensemble Night in the JazzHall
Ensemble Night in the JazzHall

From the JazzHall we hear some of our master students as part of the Artist in Residence project of the Dr. Langner Jazz Master. This great concept means that students can choose their own mentor and invite them to take part in various activities. In this context, the so-called AiR concerts also take place regularly, in which the students create a joint program with their self-selected - often international - masters.

The composer Martin Zamorano goes with Homesongs Our Jazz Nights also provide an insight into the work of our Bachelor's degree courses, and our cooperation partners FATTJAZZ and Jazz Federation e.V. bring interesting guests to our premises.

(MUSIC) THEATER - A LOT OF DIRECTING

"Penelope, The" - final production by Maike Schuster with premiere on 24.2.2022

With Penelope, The a seemingly minor character is brought into focus. According to the motto '20 years of waiting cannot be the only purpose in life', directing graduate Maike Schuster deals with the female perspective on the Odysseus story and creates an evocatively subtle music theater with compositions from the early baroque, romantic and modern periods.

Once again in the field of music theater direction, Yida Guo presents The New Year's Sacrifice and the Coming Day a production based on stories by the Chinese author Lu Xun, who is regarded as the founder of modern Chinese literature.

For all those who have not yet had a look at the new premises and stages of the Theaterakademie, there will be an opportunity from 4-6 February. The popular opera concisa will take place on the big stage of the still brand new Campus Barmbek. Admission is free for a change.

Well, and hopefully the goal is only literary in the way when our drama students present samples of their work under this title in the series Sound and Form series under this title.

MISCELLANEOUS - ALSO VIELFäLTIG AGAIN

Among the always illustrious guests of the Institute for Cultural and Media Management in the event series organized jointly with the Claussen Simon Foundation Hamburg Talks in February, we welcome Anja Würzberg, the newly appointed Head of Culture at NDR, with the question "How does culture become indispensable for people when other things ensure survival?"

In the lecture series Intersectional this time the topic 'Ableism and Dance' is on the program. The series of events, conceived as part of Mensch | Musik | Gender and together with the HfMT's Awareness Team, examines discriminatory and privileging structures in the art world.

The workshop series Klangwerkstadt Wilhelmsburg under the direction of multimedia composer Carlos Andrés Rico is entering its second round and welcomes beginners and advanced students alike who enjoy experimenting and making music together.

And finally there is the ecumenical church serviceorganized by students and staff from various deaneries and specialist groups at the HfMT.

"He who emphasizes much, emphasizes nothing"; we know that. On the other hand: "A lot helps a lot!"
See and choose for yourself!

Welcome and best wishes,
Your HfMT
